Tradition Twelve

DRAFT FOR THE CONSIDERATION OF THE GROUP CONSCIENCE

“Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.”

Tradition Twelve is the capstone of the Traditions. It reminds us why anonymity matters—not just for privacy, but as a spiritual principle that runs through everything we do. In Kindr, anonymity is not about hiding; it’s about humility. It invites us to put aside ego, ambition, and self-promotion, so that something greater can come through us.

Anonymity levels the playing field. In these rooms, titles, status, income, race, gender, orientation, background—none of that matters. We come as we are: one addict helping another. There are no stars here, no gurus, no VIPs. The only thing that matters is the message, and the willingness to share it.

Placing principles before personalities means we make decisions based on values, not on who speaks the loudest or who has the most experience. It means we don’t let charisma, charm, resentment, or rivalry distract us from the core of our purpose: recovery. We serve the group, not ourselves. We take turns, we take counsel, we take care.

This Tradition also speaks to how we treat one another. When we truly place principles before personalities, we look beyond flaws and friction. We forgive. We listen. We welcome people we might not naturally be drawn to. Why? Because the programme works through people—not perfect people, just honest ones.

Anonymity gives us freedom. Without the burden of reputation, we can show up as we are. We can change. We can fail and try again. No one is better than, or less than, anyone else. This sense of equality is the spiritual bedrock of Kindr. It keeps us safe. It keeps us honest. It keeps us grounded.

Tradition Twelve calls us to remember why we are here: not to shine, but to serve. Not to be right, but to heal. Not to be admired, but to love and be loved. It is a Tradition of deep surrender—of letting go of image so that our message can reach the still-suffering addict, heart to heart.

Key Spiritual Principles in Tradition Twelve:

Anonymity – We let go of personal identity and ego, so the message of recovery can speak more clearly.

Humility – We are all equal here. No one stands above another. We lead by example, not by authority.

Equality – Every voice matters. Every person belongs. We practise fairness and inclusion in all we do.

Service – We put the good of the group and the spirit of recovery ahead of individual gain.

Spiritual Integrity – We place love, honesty, and kindness at the centre of our actions, decisions, and relationships.
